Father Kane has been pastor of our parish for almost five years, and we have been so blessed to have him here!
Father first felt called to the priesthood when he was on a youth retreat as a senior in high school. After two and a half years of college, he made the decision to enter into seminary. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, where he studied philosophy, Theology, and Sacred Scripture for six years.
He was ordained a priest on June 4, 2016 at Saint Catherine of Siena parish in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He spent his first two years of priesthood in Chapel Hill at St. Thomas More parish, then his next two years at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh, NC. After that, he came to us at St. Anthony, here in Southern Pines.
Father's favorite parts about being a priest are the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Confession. He loves prayer and meditation and recitation of the Psalms. Because of this, he has instituted the practice of Morning Prayer at our parish on Monday mornings before Mass. In fact, the times he felt the strongest calls to the priesthood were during frequent times of prayer in the Adoration chapel in college and at home on breaks, when he was afforded increased time for personal prayer and mediation.
Father Kane is the only priest in his family, both immediate and extended! They couldn't be more joyful. His aunt even knew from a young age that Father would become a priest.
Outside the parish, Father enjoy athletic pursuits. He loves running, table tennis, disc golf, soccer, and hiking. He is also a true extrovert and loves connecting with people in conversation, particularly if you want to talk about Star Trek!
